Frequently asked questions
The questions an evaluation actually raises.
Including the ones where the answer is no. Those are usually the useful ones.
Is CareIT AL HIPAA compliant?
No software makes you compliant, and we will not claim otherwise. CareIT AL is not certified and is not HIPAA-attested today. It ships with the controls a regulated deployment needs — individual accounts, TOTP two-factor, role-based permissions, an append-only clinical record and a hash-chained audit trail — and an external security assessment is a gate we intend to complete with a design partner. If a vendor tells you their product makes you HIPAA compliant, ask them to put it in the contract.
Does it work offline?
No, and it never pretends to. There is a connection indicator, and if the network drops the product tells you rather than accepting a note it cannot save. For genuine outages there is the Downtime Pack — MAR sheets, resident summaries and emergency cards generated from live data so your paper fallback is current, not last month's printout.
Is there a family portal?
Not in this build. Families are held on the resident record as responsible parties with a contact order, and staff answer family questions from the resident timeline. A portal is on the roadmap and we are not going to sell it as finished.
Does it handle billing, invoicing or payroll?
No. CareIT AL is a care and operations system. Billing and payroll are out of scope, and we would rather say so now than during your implementation.
Can caregivers use it on their phones?
Yes. It is a responsive web application — it runs in the browser on a phone or tablet with nothing to install and nothing to sync. It is not a native app in an app store.
How do you handle state reporting deadlines?
Assisted living is licensed state by state and there is no federal reporting standard, so reporting windows are recorded per facility with a jurisdiction label. Each incident counts down against your state's rules, and the screen states which source set the deadline. Where nothing is recorded the default is a conservative 24 hours for every severity — deliberately earlier than any realistic deadline. Those defaults are placeholders until your state's rules are confirmed and recorded during implementation.
What stops someone editing a record after an incident?
Database triggers block UPDATE and DELETE on clinical records — not just the interface, so it holds even for someone with direct database access through the application. Corrections attach as amendments that show both versions, and the audit trail is hash-chained, so tampering breaks the chain visibly. No role can edit or clear it, including administrators.
What happens if we outgrow our bed band?
Nothing shuts off. We move you to the next band at renewal. Software that locks a caregiver out during a medication pass is a safety problem, not a collections strategy.
Can we get our data out?
Yes, at any time. Each facility gets a dedicated database, and CSV exports of residents, medications, incidents and the audit trail are available from the product itself — not only when you are leaving.
How long does implementation take?
It depends on how much of your current record is on paper. The fee is flat regardless: provisioning, facility and jurisdiction setup, roles, residents, active medication orders, allergies and diets, inventory, a menu cycle, role-based training and a Downtime Pack drill before go-live.
Who is behind it?
Communityline IT Solutions Co., in partnership with CareIT Solutions Inc. CareIT AL is the assisted living member of a family that also includes CareIT HMS for hospitals and CareIT Business OS.
Can we see the product before committing?
Yes — every screen is published on this site, the full user guide is downloadable as a PDF, and a live walkthrough runs on a real instance with demo data. You can read the whole manual before you talk to us.
Something we did not cover? Ask us directly — we reply within one business day.
